- Description
- Organoid technology has emerged as a powerful tool in the field of disease modeling, offering a unique opportunity to recapitulate complex tissue and organ functions in vitro. Organoids, three-dimensional cell cultures that mimic the architecture and function of specific organs or tissues, have revolutionized our ability to study and understand various diseases in a more physiologically relevant context. This review explores the application and advancement of organoid technology in animal disease modeling. It delves into the significant contributions of organoids in modeling a wide range of animal diseases, including gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory disorders, neurological disorders, liver disorders, kidney disorders, reproductive disorders, and infectious diseases. By summarizing recent studies and breakthroughs, we highlight how organoid technology has enabled researchers to gain new insights into animal disease mechanisms, screen for potential therapeutics, and personalize treatment approaches. Furthermore, this review also explores recent advancements in the field, such as the incorporation of organoids to utilize gene-editing techniques like CRISPR-Cas9 to enhance disease modeling precision. Overall, the application and advancement of organoid technology in animal disease modeling hold immense promise for improving our understanding of disease pathogenesis and the development of novel therapies. While challenges remain, ongoing innovations in organoid culture techniques and integration with other technologies offer exciting prospects for the future of disease research and personalized medicine. This review underscores the transformative potential of organoids in advancing our knowledge of animal diseases and ultimately improving human and animal health.
